Endgame Spoiled?

Theory and Spoiler City

I’ve seen Captain Marvel and I’m ready to spin some theories about Avengers Endgame! So potential spoilers for every part of the MCU. You have been warned.

While my Captain Marvel Theory was a bit outlandish and far fetched I think my Endgame Theory is much more grounded in what we know and have seen so far. Not to mention LEGO “leaking” the sets, Pepper Potts not returning, the IMDb cast page, and the contracts ending for some major MCU stars combined with the few trailers we have tell us a lot.

So without further ado let’s get down to it.

Endgame will focus on two things, avenging the fallen and trying to get them back. For those who have watched infinity war that seems pretty obvious. They are the Avengers after all.

As we last saw them Tony and Nebula are the only survivors on Titan. They have extremely limited resources being so far from earth. The ship Tony got to Titan on was destroyed. The only ship left is probably what’s left of a battle damaged Benatar. Nebula would be the obvious choice as pilot since this is Tony’s first time being in space (not counting the missile in Avengers 1). In the trailers it appears that the duo get stranded. From loose reports online all the footage we have seen is from the first half hour of a three hour movie.

While the duo is stuck the rest of the Avengers (Captain America, War Machine, Black Widow, Thor, and Hulk) have returned to Avengers compound in Upstate New York. Rocket is strangely missing from the cast. Having only met Thor before I’m not surprised if he goes off on his own to try to find Groot. We see at the end of Captain Marvel that the remaining Avengers have managed to get their hands on Fury’s PDA. Black Widow seems to have become the de facto leader since the dusting of Fury and Tony’s disappearance. Captain Marvel arrives in search of Fury and probably learns of the dusting. She has been off stopping the Kree/Skrull War for the past 30 years and helping other planets. The Earth team gets word from Tony and help save him and Nebula. Specifically Black Widow, Rocket, Thor, and a very depressed Hawkeye. This information is curtsey of the new LEGO sets. Hawkeye probably loses his entire family to “the snap” and has since become a very dark vigilante in search of revenge and answers.

After the entire team is finally on earth, Antman escapes the Quantum Realm and meets up with the team. Rocket, Tony, Scott, and Bruce come up with a way to use the Quantum Realm to time travel. The team wants to put together an infinity gauntlet before Thanos does or at the very least try to destroy the infinity stones before they are completely assembled. Captain America, Tony, Scott, and Rocket travel into the past to try to prevent the future.

Why these four? First I think Rocket because of the suit we see him in, in the trailers. It looks very reminiscent of his comic suit which could be before he joined the Guardians. The other three we have seen in early set photos wearing a small device on their hands that could be related to time travel. IMDb further confirms my suspicion of at least Tony and Steve time traveling in having casted Ty Simpkins again as Harley Keener, the kid from Iron Man 3 and Frank Grillo as Crossbones from Civil War and Winter Solider. LEGO goes on to solidify Tony going back to Iron Man 3 with the “Hall or Armors”. We see one specific suit we haven’t seen before or since that movie, the blue heavy lifting suit, Mark 38, (or as I call it HulkBuster Jr). We know Tony goes back in his current suit (Mark 50) because once again LEGO told us.

The time travel goes on because Tilda is set to reprise her role as the Ancient One. We can guess this is sometime in the 70s because of the extras on IMDb. This is well before Doctor Strange but presumably she still has the time stone to make this time travel easier.

We also have rumors of Katherine Langford casted as Scott Lang’s teenage daughter. There is some possibility that Katherine and Ty become heroes in the future and that’s why Antman is part of the time traveling team. We get to go to the past and the future in attempts to stop the snap from ever happening.

That’s about where my theory ends. I’m not really sure what act 3 will be. From the LEGOs I surmise that the final battle will be at Avengers compound. We haven’t seen much about it and that makes sense. The Russo Brothers are being very quiet about it.

With Spider-Man 2 coming out in July we also know everyone who was dusted comes back. We see Peter and Fury alive and well post Infinity War. Sadly it appears Tony doesn’t make it out of Endgame. We don’t see him mentoring Peter at all and that is depressing.

I’m about out of ideas on what happens in Endgame. But thanks for reading.

Maleficent was trash. Change my mind.

In search of answers…

Can someone please explain to me why Disney is making a Maleficent 2? Like what’s the point? I usually don’t go on tirades, especially against Disney the all powerful, but this one needs to happen.

Maleficent was a rotten garbage film that’s had not only crappy acting and special effects but a shoddy plot. It’s was a waste of an hour and a half of my life. I don’t usually hate movies with such a burning passion but this ranks up there with RIPD, Cars 2, and All is Lost. It was just a trashy waste of talent (or lack there of for the main character), money, and the viewers time.

I guess besides it being a rotting corpse of a hair brained plot I really just hate that Disney took a really well done classic villain and made them a wimp. I love villains that are bad and own it. Look at Captain Hook or Scar or Hades. All classic Disney villains who were evil through and through. They didn’t have to have redemption arcs. You knew they were evil and that was okay. But Disney mistakenly attempted to redeem Maleficent and it stunk of a freshly run over skunk. She doesn’t need to be redeemed. She is evil. Deal with it.

I’m not excited for this movie. If you can’t tell.

The Bricks Spoil All

LEGO

Without showing you the pictures LEGO has done it again. They have leaked what Avengers Endgame will look like.

From here on out *SPOILERS*

The Russo Brothers have been pretty tight lipped about Endgame and with it only two months away the anticipation is mounting.

They have announced five sets in total that are from the new film. With each of these we understand LEGO is taking some creative liberties but the sets are usually pretty close to the films.

I do have every single set from Infinity War, I will admit. I wanted Thanos with a full infinity gauntlet. So you could say I’m excited for the new sets.

But what do these sets mean for Endgame?

The biggest point I want to mention is we don’t see another villain. The only bad guy we see is Thanos. Even with rumors of a Fantastic Four villain or Kang we don’t see a trace of them in the sets. So who knows.

After seeing Captain Marvel this weekend I will revisit my Endgame theory. I want to hold off until I know everything I can. But I do have some speculation on what the white suits mean, why some characters are with others, and why we see the hall of Iron Man suits again. So gear up for Theory and spoiler central this weekend. Because I think I have the time stone and I’ve seen into the future thanks to LEGO.

Don’t panic. “Momo Challenge” isn’t what you think.

Misinformation

My fiancée woke me up the other day sending me texts and freaking out about some new dangerous fad. Apparently she wasn’t alone I’m freaking out. But after doing some digging it seems she was subject to “fake news”.

This seems to be all the rage today, misinformation. The media wildly speculating on things they know nothing about, blowing normal news stories way out of proportion. No I’m not talking about politics.

I’m talking about the “Momo Challenge”.

Don’t start freaking out. That’s part of the problem. The “challenge” or so it’s called is a hoax. It’s a total fabrication that has caught wind on Facebook and news outlets (much in the same way Anti-Vaxxing caught on). But it doesn’t exist.

Forbes wrote an article that best discusses what is happening. “You have likely seen a number of stories in your news and social feeds about the dangers of something called The Momo Challenge. This usually accompanies an image of a grotesque bird-head with warnings about children being encouraged to harm or kill themselves.” I get how that seems scary. But if people would look a bit past the scare and fake news they could see what is really going on.

What is going on? It’s an old fashioned email chain letter. That’s all it is. Remember those dumb emails that said “send this to 10 people or you will have bad luck for all of 2003!”? It’s exactly like that. Facebook has caught wind of this chain letter and made it much worse than it is. The Forbes article goes on to state “The image and the story of children harming themselves or their families is, of course, shocking. However, as ParentZone recently highlighted, the number of reported cases of children harming themselves because of the game is extremely low. Even those cases that are linked in the media, of teenagers killing themselves in Asia and South America, are not suggesting the game was the direct cause.”

“Andy Phippen professor of social responsibility in IT at Plymouth University, told me, “things like Momo become social media storms because folk are so keen to share. It’s a nasty looking image which looks scary, so, the gut feeling would be this would scare kids. But check the sources and the evidence trail soon runs dry. It’s viral content at the end of the day, propagating just adds fuel to the fire, and creates unfounded hysteria. Don’t believe everything you read online.””

Forbes isn’t the only one reporting the truth. So is YouTube in official comments, Parentzone.org, The Guardian and others.

What can we learn?

First parents do need to keep track of what their kids do on electronics. They aren’t babysitters. Be actual parents and slow down.

Second don’t believe everything you see on the Internet, especially Facebook.

Smosh, GameTheory, and Defy

Defy Media and the Fallout

It’s been a while (November) since I’ve given an update on Smosh, Defy, and the collapse of YouTube. We have a lot of news both great and terrible.

Let’s start with the bad news first. Defy Media really has collapsed. We reported it when Smosh fell into disarray and subsequently several other YouTubers have come out to say they were part of, and hurt by, Defy Media. Matthew Patrick of GameTheory has been the loudest in his complaints of Defy. You can check out his first video here. https://youtu.be/ACNhHTqIVqk

Through the confessions of the other former Defy YouTubers we have learned a lot. First Defy was a middle man. The company was designed to help small YouTubers advertise and build their brand. For a small fee off the top Defy would help with these things. They would take the money from YouTube, take their cut of the ad revenue, then pass it on to the YouTubers. Defy would use the money coming in, the total, not their cut, and show investors how much they were making. But the money wasn’t theirs. Most of it belonged to the YouTubers. In the end when Defy collapsed they had stollen $1.7 million from the YouTubers they represented. They kept many of these Internet personalities paychecks and said too bad. Matpat does a much better job explaining so go watch his video.

Simplified down Defy stole $1.7 million from people like GameTheory and Smosh.

Besides stealing, Defy also closed on of the most well known YouTube channels, Smosh. We reported on in back in November and you can read the article here https://wethegeek.water.blog/2018/11/12/the-fall-of-smosh/

Thankfully Smosh has some good news. After several months in limbo Smosh has a new home, Rhett and Link. Yes the duo who stars and runs Good Mythical Morning has taken Smosh under their wings and given them a home. We aren’t sure what changes, if any, will happen to Smosh but this is definitely great news.

All out of Pepper

Avengers Endgame

It’s no surprise to anyone that there are new rumors floating around Endgame. Reddit seems to be a hotbed of these theories and rumors.

But the biggest surprise comes in the form of an official retirement from one of the supporting cast, Gwyneth Paltrow. Pepper Potts has been part of the MCU since Iron Man, the very beginning, but new reports are coming out that Avengers Endgame will be her last.

This isn’t the first time Paltrow has quit. After Avengers Age of Ultron she quit and was subsequently missing from Spider-Man Homecoming. She returned as Pepper in Avengers Infinity War but now it appears Avengers 4 will be the last.

Why should you care?

First it means Tony’s dream from Infinity War about them having a kid won’t happen. There will be no little Starks running around to take up their fathers heavy mantle.

That also means even if by some miracle she does put in the Rescue armor, she won’t be the new Iron Man either.

So now we look to the kid from Iron Man 3 to take over as Iron Man. Because it won’t me Pepper.

Not a nICE trailer

Frozen II trailer

Well Disney dropped the Frozen II trailer today and I think they’re taking too much from their purchase of marvel because our characters look like they’re training to defeat Thanos and not have musical numbers in the snow anymore. This trailer is dark. We see favorites Anna Elsa and Kristoff running and jumping and doing intense free climbing. It tells us nothing of a story. Nothing of any sort of villain. Nothing of any plot. Just that it’s going to be intense. The only clue were given is a repeated look at falling leaves. That clearly will mean something but we have no clues now as to what it is (maybe Elsa is going to save us all from climate change).

For someone who very shamelessly loves the frozen story I’m dying here. I have no answers and no idea what to expect. It is little more than a teaser and it’s exactly Disney’s plan. Get us all hooked and anxiously awaiting more.

Reboot the DCEU

Task Force X

The rumor mill is in full swing again for the DCEU and this time it has to do with a soft reboot to the franchise.

A while back James Gunn was gored from Disney and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. After said incident the execs over at DC saw an opportunity. Rumor has it Gunn will be directing the Suicide Squad sequel (say that ten times fast).

New rumors report that Gunn will actually be in charge of rebooting the DCEU with Task Force X, not making it Suicide Squad 2. This isn’t really a surprise. Both Superman and Batman actors have quit, leaving a gaping hole in the DCEU roster. To be completely fair the DCEU has only produced one good movie and one okay movie. If they ever want to reach Marvel and Disney, they really have to step their game up.

Task Force X seems like a good opportunity for DC. It is a great way to introduce some new rogues like Reverse Flash and Penguin before throwing them up against Flash and Batman. It also is a good time to bring out little known villans like Parasite, Captain Cold, or Firehawk, all of whom have never made it into the live action big screen.

If the DCEU does decide to reboot, they have my full support.

The Death of Batman

Batman 2021

No that’s not the title of a new movie or comic series, thought it definitely could be. It’s the release date of the next Batman movie. The news finally broke this week that DC will be making another live action Batman movie. The REAL news is that Ben Affleck will not be continuing his role as Batman from the current DCEU.

This isn’t much of a surprise. Rumors have been going around of his departure from the franchise since Batman Vs. Superman. Back in September I wrote an article about the departure of Henry Cavill as Superman and now apparently the other shoe has fallen.

The Justice League has fallen.

I’m not devastated. I think this could be good for the DCEU. With Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad 2 looking to be promising and maybe a much needed soft reboot to the franchise. Now we can finally have the DC heroes we want, because to be honest everything except Wonder Woman has disappointed me.

Only time will tell

The Wick Returns

I just watched the John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum trailer.

To be completely honest off the bat, I am a complete sucker for these kinds of movies: the perfect assassin faced with uncountable enemies is just thrilling to watch (bonus points if the assassin is cold hearted or is callous to death) and by no means have any background in film reviews or predictions.

I love the John Wick series as a whole so here is my two cents from the trailor-

The trailer shows us that John’s Excommunicado that was announced in the second film taking in effect, putting 40 million on his head via the High Table’s creed. John runs to two different women: one called the Director (Anjelica Huston)

who John seemingly needed a rosery to gain an audience with and another assassin Sofia (Halle Berry) who seems to assist him. There are numerous cut aways to scenes of gun fights, a motorcycle chase, a (probably) final fight in room full of glass skulls and John walking up a sand dune.

We knew from the very first film that there would be all sorts of trouble after John went out for revenge and, thus far, the director has done a good job with answering the consequences of reentering the assassin world in the second film. This third film will probably tie John’s story up in a beautiful Windsor knot as we watch him try to flee the world he forced himself back into.

My one worry while watching the trailor is how Halle Berry’s Sofia is going to do next to Keanu Reeves’ John. Mr. Reeves has done serious training to become John Wick, just take a quick Google search to find videos of Mr. Reeves training with a gun to understand what I mean. That training and dedication translates beautifully over to the big screen that every single move, though done in a less lethal way, is believable to the audience. Ms. Berry does have a whole Instagram story dedicated to her training for this movie but, thus far, it doesn’t show me the power or finality that Mr. Reeves possess in his. This may be because most of hers are martial arts while his is shooting but I will never know until I watch it when it releases in May.

The word “Parabellum” also is an interesting word choice. Not only is it the name of a Germen pistol but also is a Latin phrase that loosely translates to “Prepare for War”. Take that where you will.
