Avengers Endgame Theory?!?

Avengers 4 has had a ton of rumors around it since Infinity War. But now IMDB gives us a few more clues that we can look at. These screenshots were taken directly from the website.

First we see two notes of interest. Two characters from the 1970s. Both extras and not seemingly important because they aren’t named. But they are casted. This casting means that at least in some form time travel will happen in Endgame. This has long been rumored and only seems confirmed by this casting. Along with these extras we see a lot of SHIELD agents, Soliders, and Midtown High students (Peter Parker’s school). We aren’t quite sure why but apparently they will be important.

We also see the Ancient One and Crossbones returning. Both of these characters have since been dead for several movies. Since both are returning this too gives some credit to more time travel. Maybe the Avengers taking the time stone from the Ancient One wayyy before Doctor Strange?

We also get to see the return of Harley Keener aka the kid from Iron Man 3. He is by far too old to be playing a flashback version of himself. They could still have extra footage from Iron Man 3 but I doubt it. Personally I’m hoping he finally takes up the mantel of Iron Man after Tony dies.

Lastly one of the most important things is who we don’t see on this list, Loki, Gamora, or Vision. I can’t believe I’m saying this but all three may really be dead. Only time will tell.

I’ll see you geeks and nerds later!

I know the truth Marvel!

I have a few points of interest before I begin.

First is Potential Spoilers? This may spoil most MCU movies and future projects. You have been warned.

Second the MCU changes origin stories. Thanos, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Hulk, Hawkeye, Thor, Vision, Starlord, M’baku and others all had altered origins from the comics.

Third Marvel misdirects a lot. I mean a lot. So all of this could be wrong. It’s just a theory.

I didn’t think much of the Captain Marvel trailer till “From Superheroes” explained it.

Captain Marvel is a Skrull.

Yep. She is one of the “bad guys”. What’s the proof? Her blood. Even on earth her blood is green. Wayyy before she gets brainwashed in space. You see several shots of younger Carol laying on the ground bleeding green blood. Long story short Carol is a Skrull sent to earth to observe and infiltrate till the eventual invasion, just like the old lady she punches on the bus. But in some accident she ends up with the Kree and loses all memory of her Skrull life. She is helped with Kree medical which gives her the blue blood, now mixed with her Skrull blood. The combination makes for a very very powerful chick. She is the first of her kind. A true hybrid Skrull/Kree super solider or maybe simply a Super Skrull. Since one government never rescued her (Skrull) and one lied (Kree) she chooses to fight for the memories she has of earth.

In the trailer a Skrull can be heard asking her does she want to know what she truly is. It’s not Kree, or human, but Skrull.

Not enough proof for you?

Fine.

Her gosh dang cat has been getting a lot of attention. No I’m not talking about it being a feminist statement or whatever Tumblr has claimed. No it’s because of the toy leaks.

Not one, but three toy companies (Hasbro, Lego, and Funko POP) have released images of Goose the cat toys. This means this cat is more than just a cute nod to the comics. The cat even made the first poster over in the far corner. It’s important. And not because she is a crazy cat lady.

These toys play right into the theory of Captain M being a Skrull. How can I claim that? If you look at the toy releases, the first being the hasbro action figures, Goose (aka her cat aka Chewie in the comics) is in cuffs and has a muzzle. Which means one of two things. Either Goose is an alien monster like in the comics, orrrr something far more sinister.

Goose the cat is Carols Skrull handler.

Just like any spy, Carol has a handler on earth as a “kid”. It’s the cat. What’s my evidence? The LEGO set. Goose is with the Skrulls and isn’t in a cage. If the Skrulls saw Goose as a threat he would be in a cage. Hasbro went to the trouble of designing a cat in cuffs with a muzzle. Skrulls are known to shapeshift. Carol is proof of that.

The plot of Captain M will follow a “spy” style story. CM is one of the Kree suicide squad. Every single character on her team is a villain in the comics. Even Jude Law. We see Ronin the Accuser (Guardians Vol. 1) with her too. The Kree/Skrull War is in full bloom. CM and her squad go on a very dangerous mission that ends with her crashing to earth. Fury meets her and the two try to put together her past. They eventually reconnect with her military past and Goose, who has been hiding in the last place she was seen. We find out CM went on an experimental mission and ended up being “fixed up” by the Kree. After Goose reports that CM has been found, the Skrulls invade earth to try to rescue her. In the end it is revealed that the Krees are not “Nobel warrior heroes”. CM goes off to try to stop both sides and Fury is left on earth, now it’s only protector, from a much bigger galaxy.

Mark my words come March.

The Death of YouTube

PewDiePie v. T-Series

Don’t ignore this just yet. I’m not another crazy fanboy who is willing to rent out billboards to advertise for PewDiePie. I’m not particularly a fan of his. I never have been.

But what he stands for as the “King of YouTube” is extremely important.

The age of creators and subsequently YouTube as we know it is over.

Why so dramatic? Before I get into why it matter I guess I should go into who PewDiePie and T Series are.

PewDiePie is a Swedish YouTuber who for a very long time has had the highest subscriber count to date, around 79 million. He is known for his gameplays and strange sketches. At times even bordering into the controversial. He is a self made internet star that has only achieved such success by his own hard work. All that aside he has remained the “King of YouTube” for years.

T Series has now dethroned him. T Series is a Bollywood based company that mass produces cheesy music videos. T Series is a corporate organization that has monopolized on mediocre content.

So why does it matter?

PewDiePie was a self made success story. He didn’t start with backers or money. He started with a strange sense of humor and Minecraft. T Series is a corporation with backers and money and a total lack of respect for the average creator. It’s become less about content and more about the almighty paycheck.

For a while YouTubers thought having contracts with big companies was a good idea. And for a short time it was. But reality has set in. Names like Logan and Jake Paul have destroyed the opportunities for young stars to get sponsored. Companies like Disney used to want to partner with young creators but that’s all changed. Instead companies like Defy Media (See https://wethegeek.water.blog/2018/11/12/the-fall-of-smosh/) have completely taken over channels and turned them into commercial money factories.

But with the realization that companies can fall apart at a moments notice the young sponsored star has no place to go.

T Series is proving to corporations that they can make a profit from useless content. If enough money is poured into YouTube, a profit can be turned.

So long to the small creator and YouTube.

I’ll see you geeks and nerds later!

*THWIP*

Spider-Man into the Spiderverse hasn’t even come out yet and people are already saying it’s one of the best animated movies and the best Spider-Man movies of all time. Have I seen it yet? No. But if someone @sony wants to hook me up I won’t say no.

With all the hype around this movie Sony has made another announcement, Spider Woman will get her own Spiderverse movie. Initially I was hesitant because the first one isn’t even out yet.

But then I started to reconsider.

Marvel is finally doing something they haven’t done well since the 90s, making a cartoon. DC for years has destroyed Marvel in animation. Look at Batman the Animated Series, Superman, Justice League, Young Justice, Teen Titans, Batman Beyond and others I’ve forgotten.

Marvel had the 90s X-MEN and Spider-Man Series. That was about it.

I’m ready for a new, good, animated Marvel universe, the #AMU if you will. I’m excited to see what Marvel can and will do with this.

As always I’ll see you geeks and nerds later!

Netflix: The Next Frontier

Who remembers Paramount Pictures? You should. They are the studio that released “A Quiet Place”. They haven’t gone out of business yet. They are in the news again why? They made a deal with Netflix.

What deal did Netflix and Paramount make?

The duo has signed on to let Netflix create shows and movies using such properties as Transformers, Star Trek, Cloverfield and others. It’s no surprise Paramount would do this taking into consideration they were the ones behind 13 Reasons Why, Maniac, and the new live action Last Airbender Series (check out Incensum’s article on that https://wethegeek.water.blog/2018/10/01/avatars-return/).

This is a huge deal. Why? Simply put Paramount is the sixth biggest studio in the US. Everyone is trying to get into the streaming game. With the looming release of Disney+ (RytheGeek’s article on that https://wethegeek.water.blog/2018/10/20/streaming-wars/) Paramount is trying not to be left behind.

I want to give credit to Paramount for using Netflix. I’m very upset that DC and Disney have decided to create their own platforms instead of using current services.

Even if the new shows that Netflix and Paramount have are not amazing at least they are trying. For that I am grateful.

Let’s all settle in as the streaming wars kick off.

I’ll see you geeks and nerds later!

The Fall of Smosh

The Fall of Smosh

It was announced on November 7, 2018 that Smosh and Smosh Games are shut down. Not shutting down in January as many suspected but immediately. As of the official announcement from the parent company, Defy Media, Smosh is done. The 80 or so people who worked there are now all out of work.

It’s over.

This is one of the larger closings we have seen in the YouTube community. Most of the time when channels shut down it’s a small group or an individual. It’s never been one of the giants like Smosh, Fine Brothers, or Rooster Teeth. Each of those companies employing into the double digits and being widely successful.

Until now.

Smosh was one of the oldest and most successful channels on YouTube. It started in 2002 as a website called Smosh.com, created by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. After the creation of their website they started posting videos and YouTube and by 2005 they were one of the top channels.

In 2011 the duo sold the company to Defy Media. The duo only received stock options in the company, no actual payout. Stock options only work if the company goes public, which Smosh never did. The duo never made any money from the sell out. But under Defy Smosh grew and expanded to several other channels.

On June 14, 2017 Padilla announced he was leaving Smosh. He left for details that had never really been discussed.

Till now.

Padilla has since come out with a tell all video after the closing of Smosh. Padilla said in his video that Defy made radical changes after the sell out. Defy changed staff, shows, and managing style. Defy also reportedly took Padilla’s Facebook page, Twitter, and denied him from joining the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and ignored sexual harassment issues with other employees.

Defy reportedly has debts to several large backers and employees, and even though Smosh was widely successful, had to shut it down. Several early reports were that Defy was shutting down it January. But since then several sources in Defy have said that is not true. The closing is immediate and permanent.

All is not bad though. Ian Hecox said on Twitter that Smosh would find a new home, so there is still hope.

Be sure to see watch the videos from those closest to the shutdown here:

Ry starts a War

RytheGeek has started a blog. It’s about all of life through a geek’s Eyes. Be sure to check it out. Here is his most recent post.

From: https://lifethroughageekseyes.wordpress.com/

Entry 004

Stardate 96458.13

I’m starting a new crusade.

No I’m not taking back a holy land or murdering thousands of innocent people. But it is a religious war of sorts.

I want to stop subscription services from ripping us off!

Why?

It seems really obvious to me. Each subscription service charges around $10 a month for media. Initially that doesn’t seem like a lot. But it adds up pretty quickly. I have three services currently. I pay for Netflix, Spotify, and Rooster Teeth First (technically I get Hulu for free since my girlfriend has Sprint [not an ad]). All together that’s around $325 per year.

Rooster Teeth is by far the best deal. I pay $35 a year for their services. Rooster Teeth is a YouTube and video company that makes content for people of all demographics. They have multiple channels that produce daily content. I spend less then $3 a month to watch all that content! Do you realize how nice that is?

Netflix alone costs around $11 per month. But I’ll give them credit for how much content (like Marvel’s Defenders) they produce. They make enough binge worthy shows to keep me satisfied.

What you’re hearing is that I’m happy with my current subscriptions? In a word? Yes.

But there is a storm rising.

DC comics has already created a service that is its own subscription service called “DC Universe” (1). Disney has reported that they are not far behind and it should be up and running late 2019 (2). Those are just the biggest giants that irritate me. There are probably others who want to follow in the steps of Netflix and Hulu.

Well stop.

People are not going to pay for these services. I see no reason to give $10 to subscriptions that should be on Netflix. Disney already has a deal with Netflix and it has worked out fine for the viewers.

In 2018 Netflix had a 11% spike in traffic (3). They made millions and continue to make a profit. I understand the desire of Disney and DC to tap into this money machine but it’s going to work. Netflix succeeded because of how few streaming services exist. I can go watch How to make a Murder right after I watch Beauty and the Beast. If I have a straight DC or Disney platform I’m going to miss out on lots of content. Keeping one or two subscriptions is easy. But this isn’t magazine sales, this is digital media.

I’ve been writing this for a week and Disney finally announced Disney+ in that time. Even with the confirmation of two Star Wars live action shows (which definitely shouldn’t happen) and the announcement of a live action Loki show, I’m far from sold.

Everything Disney is trying to do with Disney+ seems like it should be on Netflix. They have had six different live action MCU shows on Netflix (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Defenders, Dare Devil, and Punisher). With the exception of Iron Fist, the shows were amazing.

I’m tired of the corporate cash grabs. That’s all this is. One way for Disney and DC to make an extra buck.

Please don’t continue down this path media industry.

I’ll see you geeks and nerds later!

Cowboys ride again

The third installment in the Red Dead series dropped on October 26th and gamers everywhere were freaking out, including me. For those who aren’t familiar with this title, the original Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010 by Rockstar Games and is the second in the series following Red Dead Revolver from 2004. This series overall is a Western-themed, open-world, action-adventure with an easy-to-follow story that lets you live your dream of being a cowboy/outlaw in the late 1800s to early 1900s. To be honest, it’s Grand Theft Auto with horses.

The premise for Red Dead Redemption 2 is similar to the previous titles, in that you play as an outlaw trying to choose between the gang and himself, killing as many (or as few) people as it takes to achieve mental clarity for your character. Redemption 2 plants the protagonist, Arthur Morgan, right in the middle of Dutch Van der Linde’s outlaw gang, which was the same group John Marston left and was tasked with taking down in Red Dead Redemption. Due to the presence of Marston as an active member of Van der Linde’s gang, Redemption 2 is actually a prequel and not a sequel, as the number “2” would imply. Enough about the story, let’s get into the mechanics.

I’ve been playing every day since the release, and I can safely say that this game is outstanding. The graphics are phenomenal and the environment is beautiful. Not many games can pull off different climates and weather fronts well, but wow, these developers put forth some intense time and effort to perfect the environment. Not only is the setting majestic, it is more than deadly. Your character and horse will take damage if you get caught in extreme weather which makes it even more immersive. It takes the ease of traversing an open world and makes the player have to think about how they proceed in the environment, which increases the challenge. The weapon wheel, inventory menu, and pause menus are easy to navigate and separate every aspect of your character’s needs appropriately. Another mechanic Rockstar does well in all their games is assisted targeting. I will admit that I am terrible at aiming in-game weapons with my console controller, so I rely heavily on assisted targeting when provided to me. Redemption 2 delivers four assisted targeting options for a wide spectrum of gameplay options.

All in all, Red Dead Redemption 2 has lived up to the majority of the hype. It was a long-awaited addition to the Red Dead franchise that will become a classic, as did the previous two titles. I give this title an 8 out of 10 rating, taking the lack of fast travel into account. Unfortunately, this is as close as we will come to Westworld…for now.

Streaming Wars

With the announcement that Marvel (and Disney) have pulled Luke Cage from Netflix one has to ask, what are they thinking? Iron Fist was canceled because it was pretty bad. Luke Cage on the other hand was well received by fans and critics. What could Disney’s motivation be for doing this?

Money.

It’s not because they are broke or having problems by any means. No. They want to join the streaming wars. There has been rumors floating around that Disney is making its own streaming app. The biggest scare came out last year when Disney dropped its app that had every Disney movie, to buy. But that was quickly abandoned by fans because Netflix still carries most movies.

But Disney and DC Comics are hoping to change that. They are just the latest in a long line trying to make a streaming service. Netflix continues to make a profit and this hasn’t gone unnoticed. Other media companies are considering what DC and Disney are trying.

This is all going to fail. For a while before Netflix and Hulu people would pirate all the shows they wanted. Then things started getting carried by the two streamers. For a while piracy rates went down. But not for long. With the rise of “premium content” that you have to pay for fans are going to find other ways to watch the content. Illegally.

Disney and DC need to rethink their ideas before it’s too late.

Aquaman worth all the waves?

Aquaman

…I guess I should finally talk about the newest trailer. I mean it did happen…

If you can’t tell I’m not terribly excited for this movie. I have about as much hope for it as I did for Venom, which wasn’t a whole lot. DC has been disappointing me a lot lately. They have issues with the comics, poor management of their new shows, misuse of current properties, not to mention the 80% failure rate of the DCEU movies.

I’ve tried to like the DCEU. I really have. Granted I though Man of Steel was at best a 5/10. But Batman v Superman was a 6/10 and Suicide Squad was another 6/10. Wonder Woman was fantastic. I bought it immediately when it came out. It’s an easy 9-9.5/10. But when I walked out of Justice League I had to apologize to my girlfriend. That was the first superhero movie she had ever seen and it was maybe a 6.5-7.

You can always say I’m just a Marvel fanboy who doesn’t know anything. That’s one excuse you can tell yourself. But you’re wrong. I do enjoy Marvel yes. But it’s also incredibly hard to argue against the quality and success of Thor Ragnorok, Black Panther, and Infinity War. Those three hit the MCU out of the park. I admit Marvel has had some bombs like Iron Man 2 and 3, Thor 1 and 2, Age of Ultron and a few others. But Marvel also made giants that put all others to shame.

I should stop myself. This isn’t why the MCU makes better movies. It’s Aquaman.

I mostly ranted because Mark Millar (wrote comics for both DC and Marvel) posted on Twitter “Aquaman trailer just made modern Marvel look like 70s TV Marvel, chums,” Millar wrote in a tweet. “The green gauntlet has been slapped down and DC back in the game. A 5 min trailer so damn audacious, [James Wan], you damn genius!”

I don’t agree.

The DCEU has time and time again shown trailers and cut anything the fans were excited about. Both Justice League and Suicide Squad suffered that fate.

But putting all that aside let’s talk about the trailer. I do think it spoiled too much being five minutes. Here is my plot prediction:

**Spoilers?**

Mera comes to Aquaman needing help. Orm, Aquas half brother is planning to take the throne of Atlantis. But to be king Orm needs the kings trident. So the married couple to be go in search of it. Along the way they are tracked by Black Manta and almost killed. Black Manta was hired by Orm to kill the duo and steal the trident. Manta fails and Aqua gets the trident. He is proven the “true heir”, dons the King Armor, and leads the armies of Atlantis against Orm and his dark demons. Orm turns out to be being controlled by some dark force Aqua has to fight. The final boss fight is poorly lit and the villain is grayish black making him hard to see. Aquaman wins and the movie is over.

Even with all the predictability there are some distinct moments worth mentioning.

Black Manta. He is the sole reason I want to see this movie. He looks absolutely amazing. I’m so ready for him to be on the big screen. As a villain I’ve always found him fascinating.

The King Armor. It’s a call back to the classic orange and green suit. It looks fantastic.

Summary? DC better be bringing something new because I’m very bored with them.
